American Bald Eagle

Haliaeetus leucocephalus

The Bald Eagle is the American emblem animal. Unique to America it is an equivalent species to the UK and Europe’s White Tailed Sea Eagle. They are very similar in all but colour.

Once almost hunted to extinction with a bounty on its head they are now, thanks to protection, an incredibly common species even happy to come into peoples gardens!

Bald Eagles are true fish eagles but are equally happy to rob their catches from Ospreys! or scavenge for scraps from Brown Bear fishing activities.

With a wingspan of upto seven feet they are a truly magnificent and iconic species!

Worzel our young Baldie won’t attain his full white head, white tail and black body plumage until he reaches six years of age”
