Peregrine Falcon

Falco peregrinus

Well known for being one of the fastest birds of prey, this falcon is able to reach speeds of over 200mph in a vertical dive known as a ‘stoop’ when chasing their main prey species: other smaller birds.

The Peregrine is one of the most wide-spread birds of prey and is found everywhere in the world except in Arctic tundra.

A Peregrine is fitted with shock absorbers on his/her talons to enable the falcon to hit prey at high speed, often killing prey upon impact!
