This large Buzzard is one of the most numerous raptors in North America and is often referred to as a ‘hawk’. This bird will use its broad wings to catch thermals and gain height before using its exceptional eyesight to spot its prey. This buzzard will usually prey upon rabbits and hares but has regularly been known to take on rattle snakes – a dangerous game!
Many of the ‘Wild West’ films of America use the cry of a Red-tailed Buzzard in their soundtracks.
Watch an owl swoop through its natural, woodland habitat, stroll in open countryside accompanied by a hawk and witness an eagle or vulture soar before diving back down to earth and onto the gloved arm.
