Burrowing Owl
Athene cunicularia
Found in the Americas, this is perhaps one of the world’s most unique owls as it lives underground as its name suggests, unlike any other species. Eating a diet of mainly dung beetles, this owl usually chooses to steal the homes of small burrowing mammals.
Burrowing Owls will collect animal dung and pack it around the entrances to their burrows in the hope that it will attract beetles nearer to their home
